With so many companies
offering metal buildings…
who can you trust?

Our Top-Ten list makes it easy to know what to avoid when choosing a metal building company.

Top #10 Ways To Get Duped...

Beware of companies that show you one price, then add hidden costs later. They do this because they know that most people will be reluctant to start over with a new company after investing time and effort into the process. They count on you being more likely to pay the higher price than starting all over again. (See #3 below)

Here’s some common items often left off these estimates:

  • Taxes (This can add a significant amount to the final cost, especially if you live in an area with high sales tax.)
  • Installation (Is it “included”? Is that in writing on the estimate? It should be!)
  • Equipment Rental (Another quick way to shave hundreds off the final cost. This can add up, especially if the installers cancel on you.)
  • Anchors (Charging you for special “flush mount kits” or fees for standard anchors is common) *See #9 below

At R&B you’ll always see the total price, with a complete price breakdown. Our online pricing always includes delivery, installation, lifts (if needed), and all required building anchors.

Fake sales are a common tactic used by retailers to trick customers into thinking they are getting a good deal. These sales work by raising the price of an item before the sale, and then discounting it back to the original price. This creates the illusion of a great deal, when in reality the customer is not actually saving any money.

This tactic is especially prevalent in the age of technology, as retailers can easily manipulate prices online without customers being aware. In fact, we found that every single major competitor of ours used fake sales in 2023!

The only way to protect yourself from fake sales is to be aware of this tactic and to do your research before you buy. If you are considering making a purchase during a sale, be sure to get a quote prior to the sale so that you can compare prices.

At R&B we never “pad” our Sale events. We offer genuine discounts on the same top-quality buildings.

Watch out for companies that have disclaimers in their building designers that say the price you see isn’t the actual price you’ll pay. Text such as “pricing shown is an estimate only” means they’re setting you up for a bait & switch. They will often lure you into submitting your contact information with a low price, then have their high-pressure sales agents call you, and get a deposit from you, only to change your pricing later. This also is a great way to scam you out of money, as they will often include a clause in their purchase terms that allow them to keep your deposit if you try to back out of the deal later. *See #7 below

At R&B you’ll always see accurate pricing inside our online builder. Pricing is updated as you adjust your design, and is backed up by our price match guarantee!

Beware of companies that promise certain delivery timeframes, then hide disclaimers about them. These companies often use vague language such as “actual delivery and installation times vary based on building location” or “deliveries are run along routes and your location along this route may mean longer lead times.” This means that the company has no idea when your building will be installed because they are “farming out” the installation to the lowest bidder. This can lead to long delays, as the lowest bidder may not be the most reliable or efficient.

At R&B our lead times are posted in real-time, all the time. Each and every building is professionally installed by R&B’s dedicated construction crews. We never farm out installations to the lowest bidder, because we pride ourselves on always delivering a superior installation experience.

Watch out for companies that show reviews from sites other than Google. They may proudly display a “5-Star rating”, but upon closer inspection, you’ll see that those “reviews” are from websites they control. Another common practice is to cover up actual reviews in Google’s search results by adding Google “business pages” for locations other than their main headquarters. By doing this, they can manipulate the reviews to only the one’s they want you to see.

R&B believes that honesty is always the best answer, period. We’re proud of the reputation we’ve built over the past 20-years. We believe customers should be able to make honest, well-informed, decisions when choosing a company to partner with. That’s why we only share REAL reviews, from REAL sources.

Watch out for companies that don’t offer a warranty beyond what the component’s manufacturer warrants. “Workmanship” and “Panel” only warranties are the most common form of this dupe. By doing this, companies simply “pass you off” to someone else in the event that your building experiences an issue. Look for a warranty, in writing, that includes things like leak and rust protection on core components of your new building such as the roof and frame

Every R&B Metal Structure comes with the best warranty in the industry. Seriously. We go far beyond the typical “workmanship” warranty, by including a leak-proof and rust-through warranty on panels and frame tubing. We can only do this by using the highest quality components and metal coatings.

Beware of companies that prominently say they will refund your money. This is a common tactic used by companies with a history of customer complaints. They will say things like “full refund if you cancel before your delivery is scheduled” to get you to place an order, but then they will make it very difficult to cancel.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You place an order and make a deposit.
  2. The company immediately “schedules” your delivery, but then delays it indefinitely.
  3. You get fed up and request a refund.
  4. The company denies your request and keeps your deposit.

This is a classic bait-and-switch tactic. The company knows that most people will not be able to get their money back, so they use this tactic to make a quick buck.

At R&B we prominently post our Terms & Conditions so that every customer can make an informed decision prior to completing their purchase. We purposefully created our contracts using common terms that make them easy to read and understand.

Beware of companies that don’t manufacture or install their own buildings. These companies buy all of their buildings from someone else, which means they have no control over the quality of the materials or the workmanship. To keep costs low (and profits high), they often skimp on things like metal gauges, screws, tubing size/thickness, paint, and installation costs. This can lead to problems down the road, such as premature rust, leaks, and structural damage.

Here are some red flags to watch out for:

  • No warranty: If a company does not offer a warranty on their buildings, it is a good indication that they are not confident in the quality of their products.
  • Low prices: If a company’s prices are significantly lower than the competition, it is likely that they are using inferior materials or workmanship.
  • Social media presence: These companies often operate exclusively on social media, which makes it difficult to verify their credentials or track down customer reviews.
  • Referrals to third-party warranties: If a company refers you to a paint supplier or metal supplier’s page for their “warranty,” it is a sign that they do not stand behind their own products.

At R&B Metal Structures we manufacture 100% of your building. Because we buy our raw components in bulk, we’re able to negotiate the absolute lowest price for the highest quality materials. Every R&B building is constructed by our own dedicated installers, meaning you end up with the highest quality building, built by master tradesmen from start to finish. This combination of materials and construction is why only R&B offers the best warranty in the industry.

Watch out for companies that charge you for “flush mount kits”. These “kits” are often peddled as the only way to install your new building on a concrete slab that’s the same size as your building. They will then add an upcharge to your order, for a “kit” that consists of rusty steel angle iron, some screws, and cheap anchors. Aside from looking horrible inside your new building, these “kits” are an easy way to dupe unsuspecting customers into spending more without the company actually doing more.

At R&B Metal Structures our proprietary methods and hardware allow for us to truly “flush mount” your building on a slab the same size as your building. Our flush mount installations don’t intrude into the interior space of your building. Best of all, all flush-mount hardware is included in the price of  every concrete installed building.

Beware of companies that don’t use well-known, reputable paint (coatings) on their buildings. Exterior buildings require special coatings to protect them from the elements. Just like vehicles, buildings with inferior coatings will rust, chip, fade, and fail prematurely. Here’s what can happen if you buy a building with inferior coatings:
  • The building will rust. This is especially common in areas with high humidity or salt air.
  • The coating will chip or fade. This will make the building look unsightly and will also allow moisture to penetrate the metal, which can lead to rust.
  • The coating will fail prematurely. This means that the building will no longer be protected from the elements and will eventually need to be replaced.
If you buy a building with inferior coatings, the manufacturer may not be willing to help you. They may tell you to contact the paint company (Good luck getting in touch with someone from Paints-R-Us). They may also simply state that no warranty was implied or made.

At R&B Metal Structures every building is manufactured using premium Sherwin Williams coated steel. Our partnership with Sherwin Williams reflects their commitment to quality, research, and manufacturing. Only Sherwin Williams offers the latest technology in metal coatings, along with an unrivaled warranty, they stand behind, and so do we.
